Honeoye Falls-Lima graduate Laura Piazza will be competing at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday (March 9) at Birmingham, Alabama.

Piazza will be competing in the pole vault competition. As a member of the State University College at Geneseo Women’s team, she achieved a personal record twice at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, February 23 and came in first place with a vault of 12 feet, 1.5 inches which is a Geneseo State record. That mark broke the SUNYAC meet record and tied the All-Time High Conference league record. She reached each height level in one attempt. She is currently ranked #17 in the nation.

Among Piazza’s recent achievements were a prior personal best of 11 feet, 8 inches at a meet at SUNY Brockport on February 17, which broke her own Geneseo State pole vault record and took first place. She was also named an Athlete of the Week by Geneseo State on January 29.

Piazza, the daughter of Brenda and Ken Piazza, is a junior at Geneseo with a double major in psychology and communications.
