Christopher Columbus gets much of the credit when it comes to the founding of America, and rightly so. His courageous voyage, coming on the heels of the fall of Constantinople, gave Christianity a new hope, and Europe a new world. Although this same spirit has historically come to define the American Spirit, it was another Italian who really helped frame the immortal words that capture the American ethic.
