The March 7, 2019 meeting of the Honeoye Falls – Mendon Historical Society will feature J. Chris Hausler.  His topic will be “The History of the Morse Telegraph”

Hausler is the International Vice President, Morse Telegraph Club.  He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Central Michigan University in 1971.  He worked as a computer control systems programmer, engineer and manager in the railroad industry from 1973-2010.  He is now retired.

Hausler became interested in land-line telegraphy in the late 1990’s and joined the Morse Telegraph Club in 2001.  He became its International Vice President in 2014.  For the past several years, he has been the land-line American Telegraph docent at the American Wireless Museum in East Bloomfield where he constructed an operating telegraph desk connected to the Internet.

Hausler set up a working telegraph display inside our museum during three Festival weekends. Some of you may have enjoyed talking with, and learning from him.

The program will discuss the history of the Morse Telegraph System as it developed in North America both technically and socially as well as its use in the Civil War and in the press, railroad and public spheres. There will be a demonstration of the Morse Telegraph Club’s Internet telegraph system.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7th at the Mendon Community Center, 167 North Main Street, Honeoye Falls. This facility is handicapped accessible. The meeting is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 624-5655.
