Two volunteers at the Mendon Public Library were recently honored with “Young Citizen of the Year” designations by the Monroe County Legislature.

Thursday evening, April 18, the following young people were honored with this award, presented by County Legislator Rick Milne.

Maggie Grann has been volunteering for a few years at the library. She has proven herself to be helpful and dependable. Over the past two years, she’s helped run programs, decorated the library, cleaned and straightened, made crafting kits and completed other assembly work. She brings a great attitude and is a pleasure to be around. Maggie is active with HFL Drama, Math Club, and Big Brother/Big Sister Program. She also works at Flaherty’s Three Flags Inn.

Aron Seluanov, a senior at HFL High School, was also honored with the Youth Citizen of the Year Award. Aron has been helping on Friday afternoons at the library for the past two years. In addition, he has done beach and trail maintenance at the USVI over summer vacations.

This award was established by the Monroe County Legislature as one of the highest honors for youth, community service, advocacy, and perseverance. The winners are dynamic Monroe County residents with the passion and drive to change the world, as well as identify and realize solutions to problems. They are committed to strengthening their communities and themselves. The awards pay tribute to outstanding citizens who have made a local contribution toward advocacy and action.
