Participated in the First Mendon Town Board meeting

More than 20 members from local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution braved the rain to honor Timothy Barnard, one of the first justices of Monroe County. Picture submitted by Stephanie Dempsey.

Saturday morning’s rain did not dissuade the DAR as they held a ceremony honoring Mendon pioneer and Revolutionary War veteran Timothy Barnard. The event was presented at Barnard’s gravesite in the Village of Pittsford. About 20 members of local DAR and SAR chapters attended. Nancy W. Zwetsch, Caleb Hopkins Chapter Regent and Honorary New York State Regent offered a brief welcome. This was followed by a short presentation on “Timothy Barnard, A Soldier’s Story,” by Chris Carosa. Carol Gridley and Nina Bentley then offered a history of the family in Mendon and surrounding communities as well as an anecdote. Zwetsch, along with Stephanie Dempsey, District Director VII-Elect and Ska Hase Ga O Chapter, who also served as Chaplain for the event, closed the ceremony with a thoughtful reflection.
