Two volunteers at the Mendon Public Library were honored this past April with “Young Citizen of the Year” designations by the Monroe County Legislature.
Sophie Eberle and Ethan Ahn were honored with this award, presented by County Legislator Rick Milne.
Sophie Eberle has been volunteering every Wednesday at the library this past year. She is a quiet but funny young lady. She has a great energy about her and is always willing to do whatever she is asked to do. She has confidence and listens intently to all directions. She is willing to do menial tasks and technical tasks. She does everything with great care and efficiency. She is mature beyond her years. Sophie is an excellent student who excels at school, too. Her mother is on our school board, so, Sophie appears to naturally give back to her community. Sophie is an excellent recipient of this award.
Ethan Ahn has volunteered at our library every Tuesday afternoon for the past year. He’s been a reliable and helpful presence at our library. He communicates his intentions to help, shows up without fail, and gets right to work. Ethan is a polite and personable young man. He can work with anyone and is very respectful. He brings a can-do attitude with him, always. Ethan has a great reputation at school, too. He takes many advanced classes and is helpful there, as well. He’s a great recipient of the Youth Citizen Award.
This award was established by the Monroe County Legislature as one of the highest honors for youth, community service, advocacy, and perseverance. The winners are dynamic Monroe County residents with the passion and drive to change the world, as well as identify and realize solutions to problems. They are committed to strengthening their communities and themselves. The awards pay tribute to outstanding citizens who have made a local contribution toward advocacy and action.
