As with every year at the Youth Trophy Cup Runs, the succession of eight races were quick to happen. So were the sizzling times run. Great performances were inspired by a multitude of cheering classmates, parents, grandparent, siblings, and teachers. As enthused as any of the supporters, was Manor School Principal, Joelle Weaver. She chipped right in helping to run the event along with many high school runners, their coach Nolan Hoh and NHS students.
Things started big, as the run for 5 year-olds was the largest race of the day with 17 on the starting line. Declan Byler was the victor running a swift 1:55 on the grass course. One second behind, was Brendan Farrell with Harrison Rahmlow third in a very strong 2:02 clocking. Harrison’s appearance was quite a nostalgic happening for the event and the Rahmlow family. Among his family cheering him on was his dad, Greg, who ran the Trophy Cup Runs back in 1997 and 1998 with a win and new course-record to his credit in 1998. It was a moving moment when Harrison stepped to the podium to receive his medal.
Next up, the 6 year-old run was won by Zachary Bigham in an excellent 1:55. The run for 7 year-olds, with 14 running the mid-distance course, had Chase Byler winning big by nearly 10 seconds in 3:39. Sam Parkes was champion among 8 year-olds running 3:23, a healthy winning margin of 6 seconds. For age 9 & 10 girls, Elizabeth Geary ran an exceptional time of 5:46 to win on the long course. The 9 & 10 boys race saw drama down the finishing shoot. Owen Darcy eked out a gratifying half-second margin of victory in 5:36. He edged Christopher Gray with Jacob Parkes also very close just three seconds behind first. For 11 & 12 girls, Kate Lighthouse and Arabella Grethel ran a fun, incredibly tight duel with a one-second difference in favor of Kate in 6:37. An outstanding time was run for 11 & 12 boys by Evan Mason. His winning time was 5:28.
An enormous thank you is deserved for long-time sponsors of the Youth Trophy Cup Runs: Honeoye Falls Marketplace, Salvatores Pizzeria and M&T Bank. Honeoye Falls Marketplace provided festive balloons and bottled water with Salvatores donating an assortment of delicious pizza.
