The historic Masonic Temple building at 3 North Main Street glowed with community spirit on Saturday evening, April 25, 2026, as the Union Star Temple Association hosted its 3rd Annual Union Star Gala featuring a Gaming Night Euchre Tournament. Organized by volunteers from Union Star Lodge in Honeoye Falls, Union Lodge in Lima, and HFL-Mendon Youth Baseball, the event raised more than $6,750 to help fund new scoreboards for the HF-L Mendon Youth Baseball fields in the hamlet of Mendon. The proceeds will cover more than half the cost of the much-needed upgrades.

Doors opened at 6:30 p.m., and guests headed immediately to the gaming tables on the second floor. After Troy Shouse explained the rules, eight rounds of Euchre play began at 7:00 p.m. and ran until nearly 10:00 p.m. Attendees enjoyed spirited card games, raffles, refreshments, and lively fellowship. Organizers paired players without partners only if they did not arrive as pre-formed teams, creating a friendly, inclusive atmosphere while preserving the fun of team competition. Laughter echoed throughout the evening as players rotated tables, renewed old friendships, and made new ones. The competitive yet lighthearted spirit of Euchre brought together families, longtime residents, and newcomers alike in the warm, historic setting of the temple. Teams played through the evening amid enthusiastic laughter and good-natured ribbing.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Union Star Lodge Ben Peer Citizenship Award to Rob Meehan of Honeoye Falls in recognition of his decades of dedicated community service (see related article).

Major sponsors of the gala included Carosa Stanton Asset Management, LLC, Honeoye Falls Marketplace, and the Mendon-Honeoye Falls-Lima Sentinel. Generous raffle donations came from Pandamensional Solutions, Inc., Milk & Honey Café, Lima Country Club, Fanatics, The Normal, MJ Dispensary, TK’s, State Farm, and several other local businesses and individuals.

The successful fundraiser continues a proud tradition at the century-old Masonic Temple — a former hotel that has served as the village’s community centerpiece since 1827, before being purchased by the Union Star Temple Association in 1920. Originally built for hospitality and public gatherings, the landmark building at 3 North Main Street has long been a hub for fellowship, celebration, and civic engagement in Honeoye Falls. Its grand architecture and central location make it the perfect venue for events that blend fun with purpose.

Organizers expressed deep gratitude to all who attended, sponsored, and donated. “Events like this bring our community together while supporting our kids,” said one organizer. The gala’s growing popularity as a spring highlight in the Honeoye Falls-Lima area reflects the strong local commitment to local programs. Funds raised this year will directly enhance youth baseball facilities, providing modern scoreboards and better resources for local children to develop skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence on the diamond for years to come. This investment ensures that future generations of young athletes in Mendon, Honeoye Falls, and Lima will have the facilities they deserve to thrive both on and off the field
