It looked damp, dank and dreary in the morning, but the clouds parted just in time for Fall Weekend festivities at Honeoye Falls-Lima to get started on Saturday, October 7.

The sun began to peek out shortly before the parade got underway and by the end of the parade, it was shining bright. The theme for the parade this year was “Wonders of the World”. Following the Monroe County Sheriff’s units was a combined veterans group of the Falls Post #664 of the American Legion from Honeoye Falls, the Francis M. Dalton American Legion Post #282 from Lima and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #26 from Lima.

The first float to come through was from the Mendon Child Care UPK which featured the Polar Ice Caps. The Lima Primary Float took the Amazon Rain Forest as its inspiration. The Manor School float was a colorful representation of the Great Barrier Reef. The Middle School float portrayed Niagara Falls. The first of the high school floats was that of the Freshmen Class and utilized the Maid of the Mist tour boat at Niagara Falls. The Sophomore Class decided to scale the peaks of float building with a portrayal of Mt. Everest. The Junior Class chose the bright lights and bustle of Times Square in New York City to feature on its float. The Senior Class float took its inspiration from the Egyptian Pyramids.

In the float contest for the UPK-Middle School category, Lima Primary received the Workmanship Award, Mendon Child Care UPK the Creativity Award, Middle School the Spirit Award and Manor School the Overall Winner Award. In the High School contest, the Sophomore float was in third place with the Freshmen Float in second, the Senior Float in first and the Junior Float won the Grand Prize.
