On Wednesday, September 18, After Hours At The Museum, the popular series of bimonthly presentations at the Antique Wireless Museum in Bloomfield, will focus on the history of WHAM radio.

Ed Gable, curator emeritus of the museum, will use historical photographs to trace the history of Rochester’s 50,000 watt clear channel radio station from its 1922 beginning as a medium to the present. It was established to help its owners sell radios and is now part of a national media company.

The museum will open at 7:00 PM. The program will begin at 7:30 and finish by 9:00 PM. The admission fee is $10 ($5 for members). Attendees are encouraged to explore the museum, a unique “gem” of the Finger Lakes.

Drop in on the radio operator aboard the Titanic (before it sank). Sit at the massive Voice of America control board. See the evolution of the cell phone and much, much more.

Advance tickets may be purchased at the museum during normal hours, which are Tuesdays 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturdays 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door the night of the presentation but seating is limited.

The Antique Wireless Museum is located at 6925 Route 5 in Bloomfield, New York 14469 just east of the Route 444 intersection.

The Antique Wireless Museum, established in 1952, is sponsored by the Antique Wireless Association, an educational, non-profit corporation chartered by the New York State Department of Education.
