Richmond Fire Department’s float took first place in the Christmas Parade. Sentinel Photo

The dreary rain only emphasized the emptiness of the streets last Saturday. With the postponed Honeoye Falls Firemen’s Annual Christmas Parade less than two hours away, who could be blamed for thinking no one would show up. But the rain cleared as the night fell. Suddenly, Christmas carols began to echo throughout the four-corners (courtesy of those inventive Masons) and soon the streets filled ten-deep on both sides (one estimate had it at 3,600).

Very quickly, and with much anticipation, the Main Streets blazed with bright red and white lights, sirens blared, and the parade-goers delighted in watching creative floats glide by in celebration of the Christmas Season. Best of all, as the parade neared its end, the Christmas snow began to fall.

The judges (Stan Worboys, Shari Stottler, and Patty Main) stood atop the balcony of the Masonic Temple to view the parade. They had a tough time determining the best from all the decorative entries. Here are the list of the winners:

Fire department category:
1st: Richmond Fire Department (seen in the picture).
2nd: Lakeville FD
3rd: East Avon FD

Other participants:
1st: Sarah Bates (Horses and chariots)
2nd: HFL Transportation

Most Unique: Bristol Fire Department (Christmas Story)

Outstanding Participation: Livonia Fire Department
