After both earning decisive wins in the Quarterfinals, the second-seeded Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars and the third-seeded Batavia Blue Devils square off in the Semifinal round of the 2023 Section V Class B Football Tournament. The game will be played at HF-L’s James Dollard Stadium, where the two team met six weeks ago. In the Week 3 battle, senior RB Mekhi Fortes took the first play from scrimmage to the house giving the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead. Senior QB Matt Meacham connected with Senior WR Andrew Wanzenreid on the first play of the 2nd Quarter to tie the game. Later in the 2nd Quarter, Junior QB Bronx Buchholz found Senior WR Cole Grazioplene in the corner of the end zone to give Batavia the lead again. Just before half, Junior RB Conor Finn rumbled over the goal line making the game all square at 14. After a scoreless third quarter, Meacham launched a dart to Wanzenreid in the end zone to give HF-L their first lead. The Cougars defense turned over the Blue Devils on downs in the red zone during the final minute of the game. HF-L won the rivalry game 21-14.
The Semifinal contest kicks off this Friday, November 3rd, at 7:00 PM. Similar to last week’s Quarterfinal game, the Sentinel’s broadcast of the game will be streamed through the Section V Broadcast Network.
