Each year the County of Monroe and Monroe County Legislature are proud to award a number of local youths that exemplify leadership, community spirit, community awareness and educational excellence.  On Thursday, April 18th at Monroe Community College, 80+ students were awarded one of the 2024 Legislative Youth Awards.  There were three student awardees from Monroe County Legislative District 5 and these three students all attend Honeoye Falls – Lima Central School.

Monroe County District 5 Legislator Rick Milne said, “I was proud to stand with these children along with County Executive Bello and Monroe County Legislative President Yversha Roman to present them their awards and give them the positive recognition they deserve.”

Maggie Grann has been an invaluable volunteer at the Mendon Public Library over the past several years. She contributes to the HF-L math Club, participates in the Big Brother – Big Sister program and is a proud member of the National Honor Society at HF-L.

Avery Pude is extremely dedicated to 4-H and makes an inspiring role model for youth interested in nature and leadership.  She leads hands-on learning activities for younger 4-H members, including beekeeping demos and coding sessions.  Avery’s passion for learning shines at county and state fairs, where she engages with the public, offers STEM experiences, and demonstrates junior leadership.  Her active participation in events like Outdoor Adventure Weekend showcases her curiosity and enthusiasm, while her welcoming demeanor at back-to-school events encourages others to join.

Aron Seluanov is characterized by his kindness and gentle nature.  He dedicates his Friday afternoons to help at his local library, focusing on tasks like straightening books, watering plants, and updating message boards.  Aron has spent his summers contributing to trail and park maintenance in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Congratulations to all three of these wonderful Monroe County Young Citizen Award winners!
