There wasn’t just competition at the Virginia Beach Festival but also some fun in the sun for the members of the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School choirs.

The 101 students were accompanied by 11 chaperones to the Virginia Beach Music Festival. They were among 15 schools (34 ensembles), representing New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. The Treble Choir/Women’s Choir earned second place with a rating of “Excellent”. The Mixed Chorus captured first place with a “Superior” rating. The Select Choir also garnered first place with a “Superior” rating.

High School choral director Ken Goold said four students were recognized with Accompanist Trophies. They were Ryan Stansbury, Ryan Barski, Kyle McDougall and Amelia Hedlund. Three others, Sydney Picciotti, Allie Cleveland and CJ Tomaszewski, received Soloist Awards. The Alto Section of the Mixed Chorus received a Section Award.

“The kids did very well at Virginia Beach,” Goold said. “We had rehearsals for the festival, but also had fun and were able to go to the beach.”
