The “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Reading Program brought the community out together for a variety of adventures. People shared reading, learning and creating, plus, had lots of fun at Mendon Public Library!
Record crowds, nearly 1,800 strong, turned out for various events. Of the 330 children who picked up new Adventure Passports, over 11,550 books were read! Random raffle prizes were awarded to kids, teens and adults. Prize winners included: Genesee Country Museum-Henry Mueller; Genesee Country Museum-Natalie; Memorial Art Gallery-Jude Rasmussen; RMSC-Kyleigh Alexander; RMSC-Booker Fabretti; Sea Breeze Passes-Lucky Family; Seneca Park Zoo-Kleat Christa; Strong-Brook; Cottage Hotel – $10 in Free Play, Luca, Elizabette Cole, and Lilly Mahood; Lavendar Moon Gifts-Morgan DeCorey; Wooden Toys & Puzzles – Ace Chapman, Ben Alexander, and Mason; Libraries are Fun Hat-Nyla Armbruster; Adventure Begins at Library Bag/Book/Tea-Alyssa Newell; LEGO Prize Winners included David Kniley, Ronan Sargent, and Amos Reed. Additionally, over 30 young people entered the Red Wings “World of Work” program. Amos Reed and Kleat Christa were the MPL winners.

The library had a variety of teens participate in reading programs and other events. The four winners of the $25 Visa Gift Card include Callie Adams, Julia Jensen, Eden Settle, and Ariana. Ethan Ahn, Violet Catalano, Sophie Eberle, the Empson Family, Maggie Grann and Paige Mocsicki were awesome teen volunteers. CougarTech FIRST Robotics provided some terrific LEGO Volunteers including Christopher Conjo, Gavin West, and Andy Smith.
Heather Potter won the adult prize for the adult book review drawing, a $50 gift card to HFMP/MMMP. Rory Allison, Jennifer DeVille Catalano, Stephanie Empson, Mary Anne Magee, Cathy Rawlins, Gretchen Schober, Nancy Yohannes, and Cindy Zauski were valued adult volunteers

Amazingly, over 1,768 people attended a Summer Reading Program event. It was great fun to meet at the library and around the Village, both at Harry Allen Park and Rotary Park. Officials were thrilled to have special guest readers including State Senator Helming, Assemblymember Lunsford, Town Supervisor John Moffitt, County Legislator and Village Mayor Rick Milne, Business Leaders Deric and Amy West, Monroe County Sheriff Valvassori, and Principals Allison Cimmerer and Joelle Weaver.

The Mendon Public Library offers the Summer Reading Program to the community thanks to generous grants from The Friends of Mendon Public Library, RDG Foundation, M&T Bank, HFL-M Kiwanis, Salvatores, HFMP, 20 Deep Winery, The Cottage, and Dipper Dan. In addition, the library is incredibly thankful to all its fantastic volunteers. Next summer’s program theme is “Color Our World.”

As summer winds down, the Friends of Mendon Public Library continue to support the love of reading by delivering 150 paperback books to Lima Primary School for distribution in their First Day Kindergarten Packs.
