Residents were able to go on a horse-drawn wagon ride during Holidays in the Hamlet last week. Photo by Northglow Photography

The annual Holidays in the Hamlet event took place on a chilly evening,  Wednesday November 29th. Despite the frosty temperatures, the community came out strong to enjoy the many activities offered.  Designed and supported by the Mendon Community Business Association (MCBA) this get together has begun to evolve from a ladies night out to a family happening. Businesses opened their doors to offer not only holiday shopping, but free crafts, visits with Santa, dance demos, free hot chocolate and much more.  New this year was a horse drawn wagon ride, courtesy of Mendon Academy, 20Deep Winery and MCBA.  And many thanks to our local farm friend, Charlie Hastlings, for volunteering his festively decorated tractor pulled wagon as transportation too.

Westminster Weddings & Events, Mendon 64 and Mendon Academy each hosted a dozen or more vendors and creatives selling their products.  In addition, Flowers & Fountains, Fable, The Train Place, Pittsford Mendon Wine & Spirits, Pilates of Pittsford, At Home with Wellness and The Bean Mill each offered unique activities for visitors.

Many thanks to the following for their support:

  • Mendon Highway Department for decorating the hamlet for the holiday season. And for displaying their snow removal equipment for the kids’ enjoyment.
  • Mendon Fire Department for being present with their volunteers and also displaying a truck for the kids to check out.
  • Town of Mendon Board for contributing toward some of the costs of advertising.  And for being present at the event.
  • Those who helped plan and orchestrate this event in many ways.

Plans for next year will be discussed at the next MCBA meeting in January. Your ideas and comments are welcome. Send to:  mendonacademy16@gmail.com

MCBA looks forward to bringing Holidays in the Hamlet to you for many years to come.
