Friends of Borgne — a non-profit devoted to supporting Borgne, Haiti– will host its annual Ice Cream Social fundraiser on Sunday, Aug 6 at Dipper Dan, 136 W. Main Street from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Borgne and Honeoye Falls have been sister cities for 12 years. Dipper Dan’s will make a donation for each ice cream purchased at the social, and proceeds will help meet various needs in this pretty village on the northern coast of Haiti. Friends of Borgne pays the tuition of students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend school, and supports teachers and food programs. The food support is especially critical now, as nearly half Haiti’s population is faced with acute hunger and 1.8 million face emergency hunger, according to the World Food Programme.

Earlier this year former mayor Estimable “Johnny” Dauphin visited Honeoye Falls, renewing the connection between the two cities. He expressed gratitude for all that Friends of Borgne has done for Borgne.

Friends of Borgne will also be collecting brass instruments for Borgne’s popular children’s bands at the Aug. 6 Ice Cream Social. These bands were launched with local donations of brass instruments years ago, and have grown and thrived. They perform well in competitions and at civic events, weddings and funerals, which allows the children to earn needed money to support their families. There are not enough instruments for all the children who want to participate in the band, so please donate brass instruments in good condition for use in Borgne.

At the Ice Cream Social Fundraiser, there will be a pet parade from Presbyterian Church to Dipper Dan’s. Pets will gather at the Presbyterian Church at 1:45 PM and walk to Dipper Dan’s. Don Griffin and Friends will play rock music at the fundraiser and Mayor Rick Milne is expected to speak about the Honeoye Falls, Borgne Sister Cities Connection. The Presbyterian Church will pay for ice cream for anyone under 12-years-old!

If other businesses or individuals would like to donate in any amount, please contact us at: FriendsOfBorgne@gmail.com or send to Friends of Borgne P.O. Box 486 Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. For more information about Friends of Borgne, visit friendsofborgnehaiti.org
