The communities of Honeoye Falls, Lima and Mendon have shown strong support for the two young daughters of HF-L Class of 2009 graduate Hannah Kline.
Kline, 26 of Farmiington, Ontario County, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Boughton Hill Road in Mendon near Hunt Club Drive which occurred on Monday, July 17 at about 7:45 a.m. Mendon firefighters and Honeoye Falls-Mendon Volunteer Ambulance rushed to the scene but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Go Fund Me account established Monday afternoon had met its goal of $10,000 in less than 24 hours after the accident and had raised $34,581 as of noon on Monday, July 24. The account was set up to help with funeral/memorial expenses and also for the future of Kline’s two young daughters, ages 3 and 6. Many of the donations have come from fellow HF-L alumni, families in the area, HF-L teachers and coworkers of Kline’s from Bone Fish Grill in Victor.
Louis J. Restivo, 47, of Henrietta was driving a pickup truck east on Boughton Hill Road when he turned left in front of a dump truck going west, but he stopped in the roadway before entering a construction area near the side of the road. The dump truck driver, Aaron Bassage, tried to stop but struck Kline’s car which was eastbound behind Restivo’s vehicle.
Restivo was charged with first-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony, driving while intoxicated and failure to yield the right of way, according to Cpl. John Helfer of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Restivo was arraigned Monday afternoon (July 17) in Mendon Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. A preliminary hearing scheduled in the town court for July 21, was cancelled as the case was moved to grand jury action. Restivo was charged with vehicular manslaughter due to a 2008 conviction of driving while ability impaired by alcohol.
Bassage, the driver of the dump truck, was ticketed for operating out of class, operating out of restrictions, and brakes out of service. Neither he nor Restivo were injured in the crash.
An obituary for Kline is on page 8 of this edition of The Sentinel.
