Absence does make the heart grow fonder and that was never truer than this past weekend when Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District’s Fall Weekend returned following cancellation of the event in 2020 due to COVID-19.

And what a glorious return.

From spectacular weather for all the athletic events and the Fall Weekend parade that featured the theme of “Decades” to the wonderful celebration for the induction of six new members into the HF-L Alumni Hall of Fame.

The Fall Weekend parade featured nine floats this year. The float judges were retired HF-L administrators Mary McNamara, Lisa Moosbrugger and Garce Reed. Mendon Child Care shared the Spirit Award as its float depicted the 1970s. Sharing the Spirit Award was the Girl Scouts with their take on the 1950s. In the grades K-8 float judging, Middle School received the Workmanship Award for its recreation of the 1950s. Manor School garnered the Creativity Award for its depiction of the 1950s. Lima Primary received the Overall Award for its portrayal of the 1980s.

In the high school category, the junior class took the early 2000s as their float theme and received third place. The freshmen class chose the 1980s for their float which took second place. The senior class float, representing the 1970s, received first place. Earning the Grand Prize Award was the sophomore float which portrayed the 1960s.

Jerry Lonthair and Madison Fleming were the freshman king and queen. Wyatt Huff and Madeline Kreidler were the sophomore king and queen. Jack Harvey and Ivy Yates were the junior class king and queen. The Homecoming king and queen were seniors Joey Northrup and Abigail Zollo.

Following the football team’s victory over Bishop Kearney, six new members were formally welcomed into the HF-L Alumni Hall of Fame during a ceremony and reception in the high school’s new cafeteria. Each inductee, or family members representing them, was asked to come to the dais where a member of the Alumni Committee related information about their life and then the inductee was serenaded with a song specially selected for them by the HF-L Select Choir under the direction of Ken Goold (bios of the inductees were in the September 30 edition of The Sentinel).

The first inductee was Dr. Erazim Kohák (Honeoye Falls Class of 1950), a native of Czechoslovakia, whose family came to Honeoye Falls after World War II and after the Communists had seized power in the country in 1948. The Select Choir sang the Czech Republic National Anthem, first humming the tune and then singing the song in the Czech language. Dr. Kohák passed away in Prague in February 2020 and was represented by his daughters Mary Kohák and Sue deCampo. Frank Oppedisano (Honeoye Falls Class of 1952) passed away several years ago and was represented by his daughter, Mary Beth. The Select Choir sang Of Faith and Service. John Neenan (Lima Class of 1965) was the next inductee. The Select Choir sang Home. Rebecca Clough (Honeoye Falls-Lima Class of 1980) was the fourth inductee. The Select Choir sang New York, New York. Elizabeth Rollins (Honeoye Falls-Lima Class of 1983), a business teacher at the HF-L High School, was the fifth inductee. The Select Choir sang Money, Money, Money. Matt Whann (Honeoye Falls-Lima Class of 1994) was the final inductee. The Select Choir sang You Raise Me Up.
