It was definitely a big night for one man who was completing just his first year of service. That man would be Zach Curran who, during his first year with the HFFD, was able to obtain his Firefighter I, EMT-B certificate, and become an Ice Water Rescue Technician. He also had a significant career change and started working as a full time EMT with a local Monroe County EMS agency.
Along with Chief Cory Trewer, New York State Senator Pam Helming was on hand to present Zach with the Firefighter of the Year award which was accompanied by an official proclamation from the New York State Senate.
Also honored was Peter Doyle who has served for a number of years as an active firefighter. Peter, who serves on the Board of Directors, was acknowledged with the Distinguished Service Award.
One special award saw Lisa Shellman being honored with an official proclamation from the New York State Senate for being the First Female President of the Honeoye Falls Fire Department.
A final recognition went to Robert Whitehead for serving as the President of the Honeoye Falls Fire Department. The HFFD would like to thank all of their guests and public speakers who were in attendance at this special event.
