Hopefully you’ve been enjoying our back page series on the hamlet of Ionia and we’d really like to encourage you to take the short drive there to take in the experience in person. Your opportunity to do this will occur on Thursday, July 21st at the Ionia United Methodist Church which is located at 2120 Elton Rd.
That is the date of the church’s annual Raspberry Social which will run from 4:30 until 6:30 pm. If you were a guest at Ionia’s Strawberry Social in June it’s basically the same drill. If you’re not familiar with it, here are the logistics and menu.
LOGISTICS ~ If you’re arriving via Rt. 64 (Mendon-Ionia Rd.) the church will be on your right hand side, just after the four corners. The church driveway is U-shaped so patrons will order and pay (cash only) upon entering the driveway. Then they will proceed around the “U” and pick up their food on the other side before departing.
MENU ~ There are three dinner options available at $8.00 each and these are listed below.
#1 Hamburger Meal
#2 Zweigle’s Red Hot Dog Meal
#3 Zweigle’s White Hot Dog Meal
Each dinner includes potato salad, baked beans & cole slaw.
Dessert options include ice cream ($2.00), raspberry sundaes ($4.00), raspberry & blueberry pies ($5.00), & pie a la mode ($6.00).
FINALLY ~ If, on your way to Bloomfield or Canandaigua, you’ve driven by that Ionia sign on Rt. 64/Mendon Ionia Road a hundred times and always wondered exactly what that quaint hamlet looks like, let this be your opportunity to check it out. The Sentinel will be featuring three more installments of our history of Ionia series over the next three weeks.
