Lima Christian School will present its production of Disney’s Newsies: The Musical at the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School auditorium on Friday, December 5, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 6, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Set in New York City in 1899, Newsies tells the inspiring true story of a group of young newsboys who stand up to powerful publishers in a classic David-and-Goliath battle for fairness and justice. Filled with high-energy music, choreography, and moments of heartfelt courage, the show celebrates the power of young voices to make a difference even when the odds seem impossible.
This year’s production is significant for Lima Christian, a small school with just 67 students in grades 6-12, with an extraordinary 48 students involved onstage and behind the scenes.
“At one point in the musical, one of the characters says, ‘Just look around at the world we’re inheriting and think of the one we’ll create.’ This story is essentially about asking our young people what they want to say and giving them permission to say it,” says director Bethany Warsaw. “It invites them to look around and see what they want the world to look like, rather than just telling them what we think. I think one of the reasons we have so many students in the cast this year is because teens really resonate with that.”
Members of the cast are Sam Parks (Jack Kelly), Owen Teitsworth (Davey), Isaac Lakra (Les), Molly Teitsworth (Katherine Plummer), Jenna Warsaw (Crutchie), Joshua Lakra (Joseph Pulitzer), Rebekah Lakra (Medda Larkin), Olivia Kennell (Race), Brielle Hammond (Henry), Sophia Britton (Finch), Eden Falco (Albert), Caleb Warsaw (Romeo), Eden Settle (Specs), Abigail Dils (Elmer), Samantha Owens (Mush/Snyder), David Dils (Wiesel/Bunsen), Gavin McCarty (Seitz/Spot Conlon), Dennis Brookins (Morris Delancey/Darcy), Micah Briggs (Oscar Delancey/Bill), Emily Churnetski (Hannah), Gracie Spry (Nunzio/Customer) and John Miller, Juliana Williamee, Gabrielle Kennell, Emily Oglesby, Hannah Baker, Charlotte Moses, Anna Miller, Noelle Slisher, Conner Oglesby, Alivia Arnold, Grace Vogt, Christian Hammond, Cameron Parker, Avah Hammond, Naomi Kawski, JoJo Moxon, Charlotte Baker, Alyssa Marsh and Phoebe Moxon (all in the ensemble). Student members in the crew are Kaylee Scott (sound), Caleb Vogt (lights), Owen McCarty, Lucy Swan, Sophia Moses and Charlie Valone (all on the stage crew). Britton served as the dance captain. Adults involved with the show are artistic director Bethany Warsaw, technical director Tom Warsaw, Kaylee Corell (music director), Jill Teitsworth (vocal coach) and Joanna Mason and Nina Placious (choreographers).
Lima Christian School invites the entire community to attend this compelling production and support these students as they take the stage in one of Broadway’s most energetic and inspiring musicals.
Lima Christian produced the drama The Outsiders last fall, followed by Anastasia: the Broadway musical last spring, which received several acknowledgments from the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Stars of Tomorrow program, including a nod for outstanding overall production. In March 2026, Lima Christian plans to stage Pride and Prejudice, based on Jane Austen’s famous novel.
“We are a member of RBTL’s Stars of Tomorrow program that recognizes excellence in high school theatre again this year,” Bethany Warsaw said. “We typically do our musicals in the spring, but we are trying something new this year and moving it to the fall.”
Newsies runs approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. Tickets, which are $8 for students and $10 for adults, are available at the school office, at the door, or at www.seatyourself.biz/limachristian.
