Lima Historical Society will host a presentation on Exquisite Miniature Works of Art: Antique and Vintage Buttons by Cynthia Rau, Proprietor of Arts and Artifacts on Tuesday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. at Genesee Community College-Lima Campus, 285 Gale Rd. Lima.
Do you have an old jar or basket of buttons that you have been saving? You are encouraged to bring any tin, box or jar of old buttons that you may have found or inherited, so that they can be evaluated and shared during the evening. So, bring your buttons along to be identified by our local expert and Main Street business owner, Cynthia Rau. Who knows? You may have a few real treasures there!
The presentation will focus on the art and history of antique and vintage buttons. The speaker will share how she came to appreciate the varied materials, detailing, and cultural context that these fasteners represent. Information about the sorting, cleaning and display of these treasures will be discussed. The city of Rochester had a strong connection to this fascinating subject, with its Rochester Button Company located along the Genesee River during the early 20th century. At that time, some of the buttons produced there were from nuts imported from Mexico and South America.
Hope you will join us to explore this fascinating, but “little” known subject! Note that this is a CHANGE IN USUAL TIME & LOCATION to Tuesday March 29th 7:00 p.m. at Lima Campus of Genesee Community College, 285 Gale Road in Lima. See www.limahistorical.org for more information.
