The Mendon Public Library enjoys the support of a wide cross section of the community. It has children, teens, and adults who contribute their time, talent, and treasure. From the youngest community members who take the time to pick the toys up in the Children’s Reading Room, to the teens who assist with all orders of straightening, and the adults who do heavy lifting of all kinds, the Mendon Public Library acknowledges the LOVELY volunteers in this month of Loving Libraries.

The newly-formed Teen Advisory Board recently offered a Drop-In Story Time. Saturday, February 7, 2017 was celebrated across the country as “Take Your Child to the Library Day.” Local teens volunteered in one-hour shifts to read to children that came to visit the Mendon Public Library. Throughout the week, the library benefits from additional teen volunteer work including everything from straightening, cleaning, and even gardening. This summer, they’re looking forward to having teens assist them again with the super fun Summer Reading Program activities.

Adults also find a wide-variety of ways to assist at the Library. The youngest community members LOVE when the adult Story Time readers come in periodically to lead amazing Story Time activities. Additionally, the library enjoys sharing the talents of local community members who offer to lead programs at the library. There are also adults who coordinate garden pick-up, planting, and maintenance. Some of the volunteers do lots of heavy lifting and plenty of sorting and alphabetizing for the twice-yearly book sales.

The Friends of the Mendon Public Library group is a long-standing group of dedicated volunteers that manages the Library Book Sales, Used Book Store, and many other fun events. They’re always looking for volunteers. For more information, please refer to mendonlibrary.org, support the library tab.

The Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees and Heart of our Town Capital Campaign Committee are two groups staffed by extremely dedicated library supporters. The community is lucky to have such knowledgeable and connected leaders working to support the library.
