Two volunteers at the Mendon Public Library were recently honored with “Young Citizen of the Year” designations by the Monroe County Legislature.

Thursday evening, April 23, the following young people were honored with this award, presented by County Legislator Rick Milne.

Rory Allison

Rory has been volunteering at our library every Tuesday and Thursday for several years. Rory and his aide, Shelley, come each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. They spend over 100 hours every year cleaning our picture books.

Because of them, our books don’t carry any additional residue left by dirty/messy little hands.

Rory enjoys sharing in a story or two each time that he’s at the library. He doesn’t mind if children want to read along with us.

Rory attends FarmBuddies at the EquineCenter. He goes to Autism Up for cooking, fitness, basketball, and navigating nature events. He helps his grandmother every Sunday, too.

Charlotte Staples

Charlotte has been volunteering with us at the library this past year. She is a determined and dedicated young lady. She has great energy about her and is always willing to do whatever she is asked to do.

She has quiet confidence and listens intently to all directions. She is willing to do all tasks . She does everything with great care and efficiency. She is mature beyond her years.

Charlotte is also very involved in volunteering at her church. She works in the nursery with the little ones most Sunday mornings and helps with the Kids Youth Group on Wednesday evenings. She also participates in Girl Scout community service events.
