The “All Together Now” Summer Reading Program at Mendon Library brought the community out together, shared in learning and creating, and had lots of fun. The community came together to learn about art, cooking, STEM, history, poetry/stories, music/dance, and the living environment. Record crowds, nearly 1,200 strong, turned out for the various events.

Of the forty-three kids who turned in reading logs, over 1,200 books were read by those who counted books and almost 10,000 minutes of reading was achieved by those counting minutes. Children completing the reading logs received a journal, pencil, and gift certificates to area restaurants! Some children also received special prizes, Club House Fun Center, Case Day; Genesee Country Museum, Leo Emmi; Memorial Art Gallery, Braxton Staples; Red Wings Ticket, Lucky Family; RMSC, Patrick MacCormack; RMSC, Lucky Family; Sea Breeze Passes, Lucky Family; Seneca Park Zoo, Luca Januzzi; Strong, Lucky Family; Sunrise Bouldering, Bea Corey; Bumpa’s Pizza, Madelyn Lloyd; Created by Us Pottery, Tory Lenahan; Sweet & Cute, Austin Carpin; Sweet & Cute, Fiona Gelb; Sweet & Cute, Jonathan Auyer; Sweet & Cute, Emily Aquino; Sweet & Cute, Cori Zinter; Rick Riordan Books from Bleak House Books, Eli Parker; Greek Gods Book from Bleak House Books, Charlie Bigham. Prizes were awarded to LEGO Club participants as well.

Twenty teens read more than fifty-five books! Teens submitted book reviews and bingo boards for books read. We had four winners for the $25 Visa Gift Card (Lauren Fay, Natalie Gelb, Samantha Lloyd, and Emily Wells). Ethan Ahn, Violet Catalano, Maggie Grann, Madelyn Lloyd, Samantha Lloyd, and Natalie McDonald were impressive teen volunteers. Christopher Conjo, Jack Gilbert, Abby Lange, and Gavin West helped with LEGO Club.

Alyssa Newell won the adult prize for the adult book review drawing, a $50 gift card to HFMP/MMMP. Other prize winners included Cottage Hotel, Gary Albright; and Lavendar Moon Gifts, Misty Cabrera. Jennifer DeVille Catalano, Robin Long, Mary Anne Magee, Mary McCabe, Cathy Rawlins, Gretchen Schober, Nancy Yohannes, and Cindy Zauski were valued adult volunteers.

Amazingly, we had over 1,190 people attend a Summer Reading Program event. It was great fun to meet at the library and around the Village both at Harry Allen Park and Rotary Park. We were thrilled to have special guest readers including State Senator Helming, Assemblymember Lunsford, Town Supervisor John Moffitt, County Legislator and Village Mayor Rick Milne, Business Leader Deric West, Monroe County Sheriff Chambry, and Principals Allison Cimmerer and Joelle Weaver.

The Mendon Public Library offers the Summer Reading Program to the community thanks to generous grants from Honeoye Falls Market Place, Mendon Meadows Market Place, M&T Bank, and support from the Friends of the Mendon Public Library. In addition, the library is incredibly thankful to all our fantastic volunteers.

Next summer’s program theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”
