So often we elevate the brave, the courageous, the stalwart souls who stand athwart history against all odds. Many times their foe isn’t another person or even themselves, it’s nature itself. Alas, all glory is fleeting – Sic transit gloria mundi – and, no matter how heroic our intentions, the Earth will end up nothing more than a burned-out cinder in five billion years after the Sun swells to a red supergiant.
