The Rush Bicentennial celebration is closing the town’s anniversary year with a tree lighting, caroling, and clock dedication on Saturday, December 1st. The tree lighting will take place at the gazebo in the Rush Veterans Park at 6:30 pm. The Rush-Henrietta Spectrum Singers from R-H High School will lead the audience in singing Christmas carols. All are welcome to attend!
Following the tree lighting, the new street clock will be dedicated. The clock is located in the Commons across the driveway from the Veterans Park. The two-sided clock, manufactured by the Verdin Clock Company, was installed by the Rush Highway Department on November 8th. Rush resident, Larry Kaplan, donated his services for the electric work. The Town of Rush was originally part of the Town of Avon, then called Hartford. Rush was established in 1818 and the clock is in recognition of the Town’s 200th anniversary.
A time capsule, to be opened in 50 years, will be buried near the base of the clock. The time capsule will contain memorabilia from the town’s Bicentennial, including the bicentennial book, entitled: Town of Rush, NY – Bicentennial Commemorative History 1818-2018. Photos from the year’s events will be included as well as town newsletters for 2018 and other town information.
Following the clock dedication and time capsule, all are welcome to stop across the road at the Rush Creekside Inn for cookies, hot chocolate and tea provided by the Rush Bicentennial Committee. The Creekside’s bar, of course, will be open for those wishing to purchase other beverages. The Rush Creekside Inn is hosting a live band beginning at 8 pm and an ugly sweater contest that night, too.
