Cindy Pedeville, born and raised in Honeoye Falls, though currently living on Main Street in Fishers has recently taken over ownership of the beloved ice cream place in Mendon, Mr. Twisters, or as it is soon to be called, The Mendon Dairy Shack.
Why did you get involved in this business?

“With a lot of encouragement form a lot of friends, Mendon has an incredible ability to embrace you to dream and fortunately I’m with a group of women that have been successful and continue to be successful so when the opportunity came around, it was kind of like jump and go.”

Do you have any prior business experience?

Pedeville doesn’t have much business experience, however, she has been a sous chef for many locations around, including a kitchen she opened in Fairport. It is safe to say, culinary is more her forte and the business side is new and challenging, but with her knowledge of food, she has no problem getting customers in the door.

What are the plans for the business?

“My vision is to make it a dairy co-op with all the local creamers that are around. We have Shark’s on board right now, but I’m also finding that the creators are a little picky about who sells their ice cream and if they want to give their secrets away.”
Ideally, The Mendon Dairy Shack will be a place for other creamers to showcase a few flavors and customers would then be encouraged to go to the other local ice creameries. Pedeville hopes to get flavors from The Pittsford Dairy as well as a few other artisans in the city of Rochester.

Are there any new flavors or products to be expected?

“As August progresses, we are hoping to get some organic goat cheeses to expand our inventory, and I’m also looking for anyone who’s doing some cold smoked meats. I have Lehigh Valley CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) on board to bring in pumpkins for the fall.”

Because of these new products, the Mendon Dairy Shack’s season will be extended however, it still won’t go through the winter.

After enjoying a small twist from The Mendon Dairy Shack, I will definitely be a frequent customer and I can’t wait to see what the future has to offer.
