Members of the Valley of Rochester Scottish Rite presented a new American flag to the Avon Town Board during the public comment portion of the board’s July 9 meeting.
Bryant Dunham, a past leader of the Valley of Rochester, said the Scottish Rite Masons have used the Opera Hall for public programs during the past two years. He then introduced fellow member Mike Simmons, who has portrayed Theodore Roosevelt in presentations held at the hall.
Simmons told board members that the group had been impressed with the renovated facility, but noticed it did not have an American flag on display. As a gesture of appreciation for the town’s hospitality, the Scottish Rite purchased a flag to be permanently displayed in the hall.
Ted Sargent, Master of Avon Springs Lodge, noted that the lodge recently celebrated its 100th anniversary in the building adjacent to Town Hall and reaffirmed the fraternity’s commitment to supporting the community.
Town board members thanked the group for the gift and joined them for a photograph with the new flag.
