On January 22, community residents were able to see and hear the Honeoye Falls-Lima Middle School students talk about their research projects at the Middle School’s annual History Expo. Seven of those projects will be going on to a regional National History Day competition in March.
This year’s theme was Revolution, Reaction and Reform.
The seven projects going on to the regional competition are two live performances, one on Rosie the Riveter by M. Charles, A. Grethel and M. Zittel and one on Cold War Human Experimentation by S. Schafer, B. Corey, W. Jones and C. Lighthouse; a Sway presentation on the Statue of Liberty by A. Wheelock, J. Young and M. Bailey; a video documentary on the Navajo Code Talkers by K. Hovinga, L. Kelly and O. Lascell, a video documentary on the Creation of the CIA by L. Bell, A. Pude and H. Stein, a video documentary on The Manhattan Project by L. McLean, C. Hassett and J. Hawks, and a website project on Robert Oppenheimer by A. Dovichi and J. James.
Other projects were The Challenger Explosion, a Sway presentation by E. Allen, A. Carpenter and K. Smetanyak; Gay Marriage, a website project by N. Harrison, A. Douangphachanh, R. Sequeira and S. Barney; Codebreaking, a website project by R. Sartor, E. Kittleson and X. Linn; The Fall of Communism, a website project by E. Khona, J. Kingsley, L. Pierce and B. Larson; The Creation of NATO, a game project by B. Goodyear, S. LoBiondo and N. Gauck; Temple Grandin and Autism, a video documentary by A. Larson and K. Shaffer; American Sign Language, a video documentary by E. Wisnowski, J. Jensen and A. Ludwig; Alcatraz, a video documentary by C. Mannigan and V. Lewis; The History of Barbie, a video documentary by E. Guckenbiehl, A. Cook and R. Luft; Titanic, a video documentary by T. Rosenberg, S. Stevenson, E. Iorio, A. Young and J. Henshaw; MK Ultra CIA, a video documentary by A. DiDonno and M. Ahmed; D-Day, a powerpoint presentation by S. Ferman, C. Moravec and M. Flynn; and Anne Frank, a diary by M. Murgas-Cruz and A.
