During the week of May 13th a very important sidewalk rehabilitation project will begin along West Main Street in the Village of Honeoye Falls between Episcopal Avenue and Norton Street. This area has created issues for pedestrians due to vey steep grades and uneven terrain along the driveways for the US Post Office and an old curb cut that is no longer used. There are also concerns for pedestrians crossing West Main Street at the Post Office location.
The sidewalk between Episcopal and Norton will be adjusted with the grades at the curb cuts being leveled. New decorative stamping along the street will be put in place. All trees will be removed and new tree basins constructed and new trees will be planted.
The project will also include a new crosswalk with safety lights and “bump-outs” to help slow traffic and create a safer pedestrian crossing at this location.
Village Mayor Rick Milne said this will obviously affect traffic along West Main Street. There will be no parking in the area directly in front of the Post Office and other parking areas will need to be utilized. The post office drop boxes will be moved on to Episcopal Ave for a period of time as construction moves forward. While the Post Office will remain open, parking and traffic in the direct area will be impacted.
This project is expected to last throughout most of the month of June and updates will be provided as the project continues. Construction will normally begin at 7:30 AM and cease around 4:00 PM (M-F)
It is also important to note that beginning in early July, West Main Street from the “4-corners) to the Village line will be milled and resurfaced. This will begin after the sidewalk and crosswalk projects are completed. This secondary project (by Monroe County DOT) will impact traffic but roads will not be closed.
