With the New Year come new opportunities and the Business and Employee Skills Training (BEST) Center at Genesee Community College is excited to offer a wide array of online and onsite courses to make your 2017 outstanding. A pair of upcoming programs will be starting soon, but there is still time to register to improve your skills, earn a certificate and also earn continuing education units (CEUs) that will advance your business or career.

Beginning on Monday, February 6, 2017, a new online certificate program will focus on Social Media for Business. Whether you are new to social networks or already involved, you will come away with both an understanding of social media potential as well as practical, how-to techniques to integrate social networks into your organization or business. Social media is the fastest growing way to communicate, market and serve customers and clients. Facebook, Twitter, blogging, YouTube and LinkedIn are among the many opportunities to communicate through the dynamic digital world. Social Media for Business will explain how social networks are used to develop two-way communication with potential customers and how to develop an online marketing strategy. The certificate program consists of three, month-long classes offered in collaboration with the Learning Resource Network’s (LERN) UGotClass online training programs. Each course begins on the first Monday of the month. The program is taught by instructors Jennifer Selke, Ph.D. and Nicole Siscaretti. The certificate fee, which includes all three courses is $495 and earns 4.8 CEUs. The three courses, Introduction to Social Media, Marketing Using Social Media, and Integrating Social Media in Your Organization, are also available for individual enrollment at $195 each.

For more information on the certificate and individual courses, visit www.bestcenter.org and navigate to the “Social Media for Business Certificate” link under “Online Training.”

The BEST Center will also address intermediate precision-agriculture management topics at its Tuesday, February 14, 2017 workshop, “Knowledge is Profit.” Speakers will give tips on being more accurate in data collection, how to interpret the information and what to do with it. Participants will learn to manage challenges and best practices for pesticide and herbicide application and walk away knowing how to decrease waste, increase yields and improve the profitability of their operations. Speakers include: Ben Flansburg (BCA Ag Technologies), Avery DeGolyer (WNY Crop Management Association), Rob Logston (Gary Swede Farms, Inc.), Brad Macauley (NY Corn & Soybean Growers Association), Seth Conway (Monroe Tractor) and Seth Sheehan (T&S Crop Service).

Participants will receive a certificate for seven CEUs, which includes Nutrient Management (1 CEU), Integrated Pest Management (1 CEU), Soil and Water Management (2 CEUs) and Crop Management (3 CEUs). The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $49, which includes lunch and materials. Space is limited and registration is required by February 7. To register, call (585) 345-6868.
