There were 13 members of the Lima Christian School Class of 2024, and while all 13 were good students, only two of them could be at the top of the class academically.
Lillian Herring and Lemuel Fiegl are the Lima Christian School Class of 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian respectively.
Herring was a member of National Honor Society and has been involved in the drama shows and musicals at Lima Christian. She had the role of Carlos in the spring 2023 musical production of Disney’s Descendents, the role of Charlie Lee in last fall’s drama production Radium Girls and a role as one of the Wickershams in Seussical this past spring. She played varsity soccer as a freshman, sophomore and junior, receiving Private-Parochial All League 2nd team honors as a sophomore and All League Honorable Mention honors as a junior. Herring finished a fine four-year varsity career in basketball. A co-captain, she was the starting point guard this past winter and scored 236 points, which was second on the team, for a 13.1 point per game average to go with 69 rebounds (fourth on the team), 71 assists (led the team), 52 steals (second on the team) and 44 three-pointers. She was an All-League 2nd team selection as a sophomore, an All-League 2nd team selection as a junior and an All-League 1st team selection as a senior.
Among her awards and honors academically are Honor Roll and Excellence Roll recognition, 11th grade Bible, 12th Grade English and 12th Grade History awards, the American Chemical Society Award and the Valedictorian Award.
Fiegl, the son of Lynelle and Eric Fiegl of Canadice, will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology and will study physics. He also considered Houghton College.
“He chose RIT for its robust physics and engineering program,” Mrs. Fiegl said. “He loves science and math.”
Fiegl carried an academic average of 98. He took several honors courses such as English Language and Composition, Calculus 1, Calculus 2 and Statistics along with Advanced Placement English Literature.
Along with his academics, Fiegl was active in numerous school activities. He was a member of National Honor Society, Class of 2024 treasurer, the bass player for the Worship Team and was in the fall drama Radium Girls last fall and the spring musical Seussical. He played soccer and basketball. Fiegl was a member of the varsity baseball team for four years. A co-captain this past spring, he was a catcher and pitcher and batted .356 with 16 hits (both of which were second on the team) and recorded 21 strikeouts as a pitcher. He is not planning on playing a sport at RIT, except at maybe the club or intramural level.
Outside of school, Fiegl went on a Mission Trip to Mexico last spring and also supported younger students (freshmen, sophomores and juniors) at LCS with encouragement. He is currently a Counselor-in-Training at Deerfoot Lodge, a Christian camp in the Adirondacks, and has participated in the camp for six years.
Fiegl has received several honors and awards. Last year, he received awards for 11th grade U.S. History and 11th grade Statistics and the American Chemical Society Award. This year, he received awards for 12th grade Bible, 12th grade History and 12th grade Calculus. Fiegl has consistently earned Honor Roll and Excellence Roll honors academically. He also garnered the Genesee Community College Advanced Studies Outstanding Scholar Award, the Noah Stoltzfus Award and an RIT Scholarship this year. Athletically, he received Private-Parochial All-League 2nd team honors in baseball as a junior and All-League 1st team honors as a senior. He also received one of Lima Christian’s Private-Parochial Male Student Athlete of the Year Awards.
