The Mendon Public Library (MPL) is currently featuring an exhibit by local photographer and writer, Jennifer DeVille Catalano. “A Luminous Enchantment” is on display from August 15-September 30, 2017.  Proceeds from the sale of photos will go directly to offset the expense of “Firefly Friends” classes for children and “Write Your Light” classes for adults at MPL.

The “Firefly Friends” program is for children ages 2-5 with a parent or caregiver. Classes include stories, songs, and crafts with a weekly theme for helping little ones shine bright lights. Classes will be led by Jennifer once a week beginning Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 12:30pm. Suggested materials donation for each four-week “wing” is $10. Scholarships are available. Enrollment limited to 11 children. Please call 624-6067 to register for all four classes in Wing 1.

Adults can join Catalano’s “Write Your Light” classes for mindful exploration and creative expression through informal writing exercises connected to light and seasonality. Each class includes listing, journaling, erasures, visualizations, and prompts for awakening the senses and accessing the magic of the seasons. “Write Your Light: Summoning the Sparks of Autumn” will meet on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 1-2:30pm. No experience necessary. It is free, but limited to 11 adults. Please call 624-6067 to register.

Catalano lives nearby with her husband, two young children, three cats, and a multitude of wildflowers. She describes herself as “a writer, a photographer, and an educator who seeks light in everyday life.” She holds B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees, but after a span of years living and working overseas, she chose to leave academe for art. Her writing and photography are regularly published in national print magazines including Bella Grace, Kindred, and Mabel.
