Local communities throughout our coverage area honored Memorial Day in traditional fashion with parades followed by respectful ceremonies at nearby cemeteries, which at some included the laying of wreaths or flowers by veteran’s organizations, the local fire department and government officials. American Legion and VFW Post members and other volunteers had placed flags at the graves of veterans earlier in the week. The above picture was taken at the cemetery in the Hamlet of Mendon. Mother Nature was kind enough to offer a break from the rain as the sun shone brilliantly on the dignataries, guests, and school bands who participated in the solemn remembrance.
