Digitally-enhanced photos and video of a 13-year-old robbery that resulted in the murder of a Lima resident may help bring authorities closer to cracking the case.
Last week, members of the FBI and Webster Police Department ratcheted up their investigation of the August 12, 2003 robbery of the Xerox Federal Credit Union on Xerox’s Webster campus that cost Raymond Batzel, a 51-year-old Lima resident, his life.
FBI and Webster Police Department officials released digitally-enhanced photos from the robbery showing the suspect. While not giving details during a news conference, officials said they have reason to believe a suspect could be living in Western New York, perhaps in Buffalo or Niagara Falls, but that the suspect may have ties to the Rochester area.
The photos have been circulated to media outlets and will be on electronic billboards across Western New York. Enhanced video footage taken during the robbery has also been released. As a result of the enhancement, the investigation into the case has been re-invigorated as authorities have developed several additional leads and they hope release of the enhanced photos and video will result in someone recognizing the suspect and contacting them.
In addition, a reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case is up to $60,000.
Batzel was a 1971 graduate of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School and worked for Xerox as a developer materials machine operator. His wife and children have moved from the Rochester area since the robbery and murder.
