Earlier this month, the students and staff at Honeoye Falls-Lima’s Manor School held a student vs. staff basketball game to raise money for The Dream Factory.

The basketball game was very well attended on May 1. In addition to the game, there were raffles for several different gift baskets donated by area businesses. There were also concessions at the game such as pizza, candy and bottled water. Between the admission to the game and the raffles, Manor School raised $9,345.

Manor School’s Make A Difference Committee puts the fundraiser together every year. The committee is composed of fifth-grade students who organize community outreach events as part of service-based learning. They also run the school’s Cangineering event at Thanksgiving.

For several years, the basketball game has raised funds for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which is a charity fundraiser for childhood cancer research grants. This year, students decided to go locally and chose The Dream Factory of Rochester, chartered in 1998, which is a volunteer-based organization that fulfills dreams for local children who have been diagnosed with a critical or chronic illness. It is a chapter of the nationwide organization called The Dream Factory.

“The $9,345 raised beat the Make A Difference Committee’s goal by over $2,500,” Manor School Principal Joelle Weaver said.
