gene_mancuso-colorThe College Board is pleased to announce the 2016 Chinese Bridge Delegation, a weeklong program in China to help educators start or strengthen their institution’s Chinese programs and partnerships. Highlights include school visits, cultural activities, and educational workshops. Leaders from K-12 institutions are invited to apply for this unique educational trip to China as guests of Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters.

Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School Superintendent Gene Mancuso has been accepted into the program for a visit to occur this November. Delegates were required to pay a $900 registration fee and take vacation time from school.

“I believe my experiences will help uncover the cultural and educational opportunities that China has to offer,” said Mancuso. “ Visiting K-12 schools, meeting with Chinese educators, observing classes and interacting with students will allow me to share firsthand knowledge of the trends occurring in one of the fastest growing educational landscapes in the world.”

HF-L’s commitment to diversity includes understanding its various dimensions among students and staff and encourages exposure and immersion in a variety of cultural experiences.

The delegation will provide an opportunity to visit Chinese K-12 schools, establish meaningful partnerships with Chinese education institutions and network with U.S. colleagues, attend presentations on best practices and gather resources to build and support Chinese language and cultural programs, and experience China firsthand and marvel at the rich traditional culture set against stunning modern development.

“Two years ago when we strengthened our educational mission to provide a clear focus on improving our multi-cultural experiences with language study and cultural exploration, I began looking for ways to bolster my personal leadership capacities in this area,” said Mancuso.

Traveling with the Northeast US Delegation Mancuso will be networking with school leaders across the nation and the world that share common goal-improving educational experiences that develop diversity consciousness and skills among staff and students.

As Confucius said “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” School and district leaders from Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island were selected for the delegation.
