Summer activities are just wrapping up for the Mendon Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. Overall, 1,400 patrons of all ages participated in the program either by reading books, attending programs, or entering reading contests. Nearly 500 patrons read nearly 3,000 books and nearly 700 patrons attended our 54 summer program offerings.
Children participated in early literacy events that tied together storytelling and building/creativity; learned about our environment, our history, and our world; painted, drew, and even tried their hand at animation. Teens read, volunteered and spent time with visiting authors. Adults were amazed by magicians and bubble creators, took an interest in rain gardens, and did a lot of reading, too!
All children under 11-years-old that completed their summer reading logs received a “Get In the Game: Read” drawstring backpack with assorted coupons and token gifts. Teen and adult prize winners were Melissa Antalek (teen) and Dee Sharples (adults). Additional prizes were awarded to Liam Wise, Kasey Wise, Erin Donahoe, Bridget Wise, Teagan Kamm, and Kylie Mehring.
Mendon Public Library offers the Summer Reading Program to the community thanks to a generous grant from M&T Bank and support from the Friends of the Mendon Public Library. In addition, the library is thankful to all the great presenters, volunteers, and support that we were lucky enough to receive.
Join us this fall for regularly scheduled story times, regularly scheduled one-on-one technology help sessions and other special events all highlighted at www.mendonlibrary.org.
