On September 17, 2025 at 4:30, Lima’s Town and Village Historian will be hosting a community gathering at Lima’s Town Hall on the second floor to acknowledge the refurbishing of State Markers and Similar Iron Markers that commemorate local history. Seven markers were refurbished by Darin Everdyke of Groveland for the Town and Village of Lima. Darin Everdyke will be present at the gathering to talk about how and why he refurbishes the cast iron markers.

  • Repulse Fire Co. Marker- located East Main Street
  • Gandichirago Marker- Located at the East Main Street and Rochester Street
  • Union Lodge No.45 Marker- located corner Rochester St and East Main Street

The New York State Historic Marker program was an initiative to place historical markers around the state to commemorate sites of historical significance. The program was managed by the NYS Department of Education from 1926 to 1966. Markers are still being made and installed throughout New York State today, but they are not funded by the State of New York. They are currently funded by individuals, town and county governments and historical organizations. The William G. Pomeroy Foundation is a private foundation that promotes the importance of local preservation and the roles markers play in all towns across New York State. As of November 2024, the William G. Pomeroy Foundation reported funding over 1,100 historic markers in New York State counties.

The historic markers play a large part in educating the public of historic events. The William G. Pomeroy Foundation helps fund projects to continue to erect the markers.

Everyone is invited to the gathering on September 17. Please stop in the see the amazing work Darin Everdyke has done on these markers.
