Rhyan Garey, son of Richard and Cheryl Garey of Lima, NY and a 2023 HF-L Graduate and Lima Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter, recently completed the US Army Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, KY.

Garey attends Penn State University with a major in International Relations and is in the Army ROTC Program. The US ARMY Air Assault School is dubbed “The 10 Toughest Days in the Army” and is a physically and mentally demanding course that involves multiple physical assessments, long distance foot marches under heavy loads for time and technical assessments involving inspection of aircraft, ropes, knots and sling loads. The course qualifies soldiers to conduct airmobile and air assault helicopter operations, helicopter insertions and extractions, pathfinder operations; sling load operations; rappelling from buildings, cliffs and helicopters; and fast-rope techniques.
Garey’s class started with 310 Soldiers and graduated 130 Soldiers.
