On Sunday July 27 from 2 PM – 6 PM school children in Borgne, Haiti will benefit from Dipper Dan’s generosity, Scoops for Schools. For the fourth year, any ice cream bought will result in a donation to benefit education in Borgne Haiti, Honeoye Falls Sister City. Friends of Borgne, a local non-profit, has supported education in Borgne, Haiti for twelve years with the help of Honeoye Falls residents through the Honeoye Falls/Borgne sister city partnership. The Dan Griffin and Friends band (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2cfA7tnr6I ) will highlight the event with rock ‘n’ roll music at Dipper Dan’s. Each year Dipper Dan’s has contributed to Friends of Borgne based on the number of scoops purchased. In addition, Village Trustee, Virginia Floss, will speak about the Honeoye Falls/Borgne Sister City connection.
Funds donated from the scoops purchased, go toward supporting children in school (uniforms, backpacks, books and daily meals); a librarian, who travels to schools with his mule carrying books the children can borrow; and a community band that now plays for events in the area and earns money when they perform.
Political unrest and dramatic weather patterns have prevented members of Friends of Borgne from visiting the town for over five years. Johnny Estimable provides weekly information to Friends of Borgne about the town which has avoided much of the current violence and political unrest and allowed children to go to school and excel. Donations are always accepted at the Friends of Borgne website (https://friendsofborgnehaiti.org/ .)
