On Tuesday, November 28, thousands of area residents will take part in an annual tradition – ROC the Day. This 24-hour, online event provides people an easy, convenient and secure opportunity to support not-for-profit organizations doing great work in the nine-county Greater Rochester area – including the HF-L Education Fund. Simply visit ROCtheDay.org to make a donation.
The HF-L Education Fund provides resources for creative educational initiatives that go above and beyond the school district’s requirements and budget, bridging the gap between a great education and an exceptional one.
When visiting ROCtheDay.org on November 28, anyone can select Honeoye Falls-Lima Education Fund as the donor option. Supporters can also choose to honor a teacher if they wish by adding his or her name in the comment column. The teacher will be notified and given a certificate to display.
Since its inception in 2010, the Fund has provided more than $12,000 to HF-L faculty and staff, based on a rolling application process. Grants have included Legos for Lima Primary, equipment to support Cougar News at Manor School, money to commission an original musical composition for the Middle School, and waders for biology classes plus resources to build a makerspace in the High School.
The Fund is independent of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District, raising money through charitable contributions from generous community members and alumni. A volunteer community board provides oversight and leads outreach, while funds are maintained and managed by the Rochester Area Community Foundation.
“With the community’s help, the Fund can continue to provide financial resources and opportunities for students for years to come,” said Lauri Hofmann, chairperson of the volunteer board.
