When it comes to history, several Honeoye Falls-Lima Middle School students knew their stuff and were able to display their knowledge during the annual History Day competition.
The theme of the National History Day competition this year was Conflict and Compromise. HF-L Middle School students began working on their projects last fall and the school held a History Fair where all the projects were displayed.
From there, 50 students in the eighth-grade had projects which went to the Regional Competition at Genesee Country Museum earlier this spring, according to Middle School Social Studies teacher Zachary Clarry.
“Of that group, we had four groups of 12 total students whose projects moved onto the state level competition in Cooperstown, New York,” Clarry stated in an email.
The groups were Seamus Gillis, Ryan Spaker and Tucker Beckett whose project on The Staten Island Rapid Transit System was in a video documentary format; JR Samarra, Lydia Rosiek and Jayme Smith whose project The Formation of the United Nations also utilized a video documentary format; Leah Torregiano, Ella Peters and Kaitlyn Yelenscics who collaborated on the project The National Park System in a website format; and Henry Shields, Roan Torpey and Will Tomaszewski whose project was on Malcolm X.
