Residents in the villages of Scottsville and Lima will go to the polls on March 15 in village elections.

In Scottsville, two people are running for Mayor and will take over from current Mayor Eileen Hansen, who is not running for re-election. The candidates are Maggie Ridge and Andrew Peck. Below are bios that the two candidates submitted.

ANDREW PECK

“My name is Andrew (AJ) Peck and I am running for Village Mayor in Scottsville. My wife Kelly, our two children and I moved to Scottsville in 2017 after living in the City of Rochester for 10 years. Growing up in the Village of Hilton; I knew I always wanted to settle down and raise my family in a small community like it. When we found Scottsville we knew we had found just that; a village that feels more like a family.”

“The definition of Community is ‘people with common interests living in a particular area’.  Scottsville has shown me that “community” is much more than that definition; it is the values we live by; it’s the support from one another; it is a sense of family. Which is why I am running for Mayor for the Village of Scottsville. Being part of the Sheet Metal Workers Union for 18 years I know how important it is to have a voice and be heard. If elected I will make sure every resident feels they have a voice in current and future plans for our village; all while maintaining fiscal responsibility to our tax payers. My 8 years working as a foreman have taught me the importance of leadership, accountability and cooperation which I plan to uphold within our village and municipal contracts. With the increase in cost of living i want to focus on utilizing federal funding like ARPA funds and maximize other resources to grow our infrastructure, maintain roads, capital improvements, and recreational priorities without raising property taxes.”

“If elected I will strive to maintain that sense of community we all love about Scottsville and build morale. I want to see our Village succeed and flourish. I want our community to continue to grow and prosper for our children and generations to come.”

MAGGIE RIDGE

“My husband John and I moved to Scottsville about 14 years ago, after he spotted an open house on Rochester Street. We fell in love with the Village – it has everything – food, drink, groceries, walk friendly neighborhoods, bike friendly trails, a library, and so much more.”

“Running for mayor wasn’t even on my radar, and when I was made aware of the position, I had a lot to consider. Then I was strongly encouraged by some friends, neighbors and even strangers that made me reconsider – and after much thought I decided to run. I see it as a meaningful way to utilize my skills, maturity and experience.”

“I served as an appointed Village Trustee, Deputy Mayor, and then as Acting Mayor in 2018. It was as extreme a challenge as I’d ever had – chairing board meetings, overseeing numerous public hearings, and facilitating and implementing the annual budget – which involved a significant (but necessary) tax increase. All in front of a very angry public. I made a commitment and I honored it.”

“In addition to my experience on the board, I’ve spent 16 years as a Series 7 Licensed Financial Consultant and Registered Investment Advisor. Currently I’m enjoying a late-in-life career change and selling Subarus for the largest Subaru dealer in the Northeast. If elected, I will retire and become a full-time mayor.”

“My vision as the mayor of Scottsville is to actively seek out opportunities for our Village to continue to thrive and find ways to bring back our favorite events like The Summerfest and the Parade of Lights. I pledge meticulous oversight of the annual budget and the ARPA funds. I will seek out Federal, State and Local grant opportunities to further improve our Village.”

“I will dedicate my skills, energy and passion to serve the needs and wants of the residents who’ve chosen Scottsville NY to call home.”

In addition, Bruce Fraser is running for a trustee position for the village of Scottsville.

In the Village of Lima, two candidates are running to fill an unexpired term on the Village Board. John Wadach, who is the current Deputy Mayor, is facing a challenge from Chris Held.
