West Bloomfield Historical Society will offer a public program on “Circuit Riders – Preachers of the Past” on Tuesday, September 13 at 7 pm. The event at the Society, 8966 Rt. 5 & 20 in West Bloomfield, is accessible and open to all at no charge. Presented by author and pastor the Rev. Dr. Greg Van Dussen, the program will tell the story of “saddlebag preachers” who travelled on horseback through the early American wilderness making stops in small settlements and remote areas to serve the spiritual needs of the people. Van Dussen, author of “Circuit Riders on the Road to Glory,” has served as a United Methodist pastor and District Superintendent and taught history at Northeastern Seminary and SUNY Brockport.
