The Village of Scottsville celebrated Arbor Day on Saturday, April 30 – the perfect spring day!

During the official ceremony, organized by the Village of Scottsville’s Forestry Board, Mayor Maggie Ridge welcomed local business CooperVision representatives and thanked them for their support of the community and generous donation to help purchase trees for the occasion.

Twenty-five enthusiastic girl and boy scouts members moved mountains of soil to plant and then properly mulch two red maple trees, one red oak and one hackberry tree on Beckwith Avenue in front of the Wheatland Chili Central School District’s T.J. Connor Elementary School. The Scottsville Department of Public Work crew was also on site to help with the heavy lifting of the material.

In 2015, the Village of Scottsville’s Forestry Board applied for and received the Tree City USA designation by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Each year since, the Village of Scottsville has been recertified by The Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees in neighborhoods, communities, cities, and forests throughout the world. Collectively, more than 500 million trees in more than 50 countries around the world have been planted. The Village of Scottsville is dedicated to plant more trees to improve the tree canopy and streetscape to positively impact the lives of its community members.
