The Monroe County School Music Association held three Solo Festivals in the month of January for elementary, junior high, and high schools to select students for the All County Ensemble.

Students perform a solo work on their instrument for a qualified adjudicator. The piece of music is rated in difficulty on a six point scale, with six being the most difficult. The students’ performances are rated by the adjudicator, on a 28 point scale for levels I through IV, and on a 100 point scale for levels V and VI. Taking the difficulty rating and the performance rating into account, the selection committee selects the number of students on each instrument needed to form a band and an orchestra. Since the number of each instrument varies and the range of ratings varies, the rating to be accepted into an ensemble is dependent on these factors.

Wheatland-Chili Freshman Nathaniel Fals participated in the All County High School Band; eighth-grader Lauren Nelson participated in the Junior High All County Band; seventh-grader Bridgette Lange participated in the Junior High All County Orchestra; and sixth-grader Sienna Mekker participated in the Elementary All County Band.

Congratulations to Wheatland-Chili students for their outstanding accomplishment and to teachers Steven Zimmerman and Beth McDougall.
