This year’s group of players on the Honeoye Falls-Lima Girls Varsity Soccer team will be remembered as much for their kindness and compassion as they will be for their season on the field.

The Lady Cougars dedicated their October 30 game against Greece Odyssey to local resident, Tina Marble, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition, some of the girls painted pink pumpkins to decorate her porch. Some of the players’ parents donated balloons to decorate the stands with and flowers to recognize others who have been affected by breast cancer. The players also wore pink masks and pink socks and pink ribbons. The Cougars raised $350 for Marble’s gofundme page.

“We usually participate in the Breast Cancer Walk, which we couldn’t do because of COVID this year,” HF-L coach Chrissy Merrill said. “Mari Spitz’s mom is friends with Tina and mentioned on Facebook about Tina’s gofundme page and her upcoming surgery. Mari’s mom brought Tina to the game and we surprised her. The girls had wanted to do something since we couldn’t do the Breast Cancer Walk and this was a nice way to still do something and connect it to someone local.”
